FACE THE WASTE!

FACE THE WASTE
In our daily routine we do not want to look at the waste we produce. We do not like to have a relationship with it. There is so much waste around us every day and we tend to see it as something disgusting, something we want to get rid of as quickly as possible. The packaging from the food we buy, the waste from the cooking process, the food waste from our plates after dinner, all the single-use tableware from our last party - all this has to go in the bin.
But what if we integrated the discarding and preserving of the waste at the table? What happens if the transformation of the perishable material becomes an object of our interest? Will we change the way we use the material? Can we find an intimate relationship to perishable materials?

For Ad Mensam we have played with the idea of disposing of our waste immediately as a dining ritual. Everybody can be part of the ritual as the shredder and composter are integrated at the center of the dining table. Can the death of our waste become a part of our routine and close the cycle? In our daily routine we do not want to look at the waste. We do not like to have a relationship with it.
